Well, there they are, in all their delicate beauty: my first sprouts.
What are they?
I’m sad to say I’m not sure. I know they’re herbs of some kind, but I used egg crates and didn’t have a good way to label them (and then I forgot what I planted!).

Cool Idea: Using a Freezer as a Planter…
Ok ok, I know that blog title makes a lousy joke. But I couldn’t help it!
My friend over at Renaissance Ronin sent me this nifty little planting trick, and I wanted to share it with all of you.
You can use broken freezers to start seeds, and grow vegetables.
Vermicompost Bin Update #1
Well, it’s been almost two weeks since I got my vermicompost bin set up! If you missed the original post, Adventures in Vermicomposting, where I described setting up my vermicompost bin for the first time, you can see it here.
I took some pictures today to show you all how my worms (who I’ve named The Snickersons) are coming along.
I decided to put my vermicompost bin in my dining room. But, it actually works really well in there, as you can see!
Book Review: Get Financially Naked
Most of you have probably heard that money is the #1 reason why people get divorced. But, you might not know that over 70% of couples get divorced because of money issues. Either they don’t have enough of it, or a couple’s philosophy about money is completely different.

My life has been feeling pretty hectic lately. It feels as if I’ve got too many balls in the air, that I’m too plugged in, too “in motion” all the time. It feels as if I’ve just been skimming on the surface of things, going too quick to really absorb and reflect on the thoughts and information I’m processing all the time.
I’m sure you’ve had that feeling before. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that most of you feel like this a good deal of the time. Rushed. Overstimulated. Out of control. Stretched too thin.
It’s not good!
And the Winners Are…

Adventures In Vermicomposting…
Well, I finally did it! After all this time, I finally got my vermicompost system up and running. My goal was to start vermicomposting last summer. June in fact. Well, 7 months down the road is better late than never!
The reason I didn’t start vermicomposting earlier is because a) we were travelling a lot and b) our house was (and still is) on the market. I thought potential buyers wouldn’t want to see a vermicompost bin in the kitchen, so I held off.

I’m about to start doing this myself. And, as usual, I figured I’d write a post about this as I researched how to do it on the cheap.

Trilogy Jewelry: A Business With Heart
Ok, I don’t know about all of you but I’m worn out with hearing about greedy companies, layoffs, and cutbacks. I’m ready to hear about companies with heart, and when I heard this wonderful story about Trilogy Jewelry, I wanted to share it with all of you because it just made me happy.
Here’s the set-up…
Amazing Uses for Baking Soda
You know how it is when a white mug gets stained with coffee and tea? Well, some of my white mugs are starting to look decidedly brown, and no amount of scrubbing can set them right. So, I was surfing online this afternoon looking for a thrifty way to get the stains out.
I happened upon this great post, which suggested that scrubbing the mug with baking soda would do the trick.
Eureka!
How to Get Green Energy for Your Home
Courtesy Wikipedia
Imagine this: imagine getting your electricity from a local wind farm instead of a coal fired power plant. Imagine knowing that every time you flick on a switch, you’re helping support renewable energy, and its future growth.
The problem with this scenario is that many people think that renewable energy isn’t available to them. But, that assumption is wrong. More than half of American household have access to green power if they want it. They just don’t know it.
10 Cool Household Uses for Vodka

When most people think of vodka, they think “martini”, not “wonder household cleaning and disinfecting product”.
But, I was shocked to learn the other day that, in addition to spicing up your Bloody Mary, vodka has tons of uses around the house as a natural home remedy. Who knew?
Here are 10 things you can use your vodka for around the house:

The Ultimate List For Stopping Your Junk Mail
Courtesy Wikipedia
Ah, junk mail. According to experts we’ll spend 8 months of our life reading, sorting, and recycling the stuff. That’s a lot of time we could be devoting to napping, playing with our kids, reading, or pulling weeds.
Anything else, for that matter, besides dealing with junk mail.
Junk mail accounts for 1/3 of all mail sent in the United States. In fact, each household gets over 800 pieces of junk mail per year.

Cathy's Shipping Container Home Plan
If you’ve spent any amount of time here at The Greenest Dollar then you know I’m close friends with Renaissance Ronin, a fellow blogger and shipping container home builder. Ronin’s heart is about as big as they come, and he’s currently helping build a shipping container home for a wife of a soldier killed in Iraq. And this woman, Cathy, really needs our help.

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that I had a family emergency early last week, and that’s why you haven’t heard hide or hair from me until today!
My grandmother in Louisiana suffered a heart attack last Monday, and had to be rushed to ICU. I left immediately after hearing the news, and have pretty much lived in the ICU waiting room until late Tuesday, when I started back home.
Did We Really Buy Less In 2009?
Thanks to the Great Recession, as everyone seems to be calling it now, most of us cut back on our spending during 2009.
Business was down for many (my own business was down over 30% from last year…ouch!), unemployment rampant, and those who did manage to keep their jobs were often gripped by fear that they might lose theirs. And, we’re not out of the woods yet.
Yes, it was a bummer.

7 Frugal Ways to Beat the Winter “Blahs”
Hi Everyone!
Have you been wondering if I fell off the planet? Well, if you consider Northeast Louisiana “off the planet” (which, it almost is), then you’d be correct. I got sick, and then I was away for the holidays visiting family. AND, since we sold our house the day before I left, I’ve been in a whirlwind of busy-ness since I got back. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and New Year’s!
I’m back to regular posting this week, and wanted to tackle something to happens to me every year: the winter blues.
