Painting the Interior of Your House
One of the most popular and easiest summer DIY projects is painting the interior walls inside your house.
Some Special Tips From DIY Hound
- Don't skimp on paint! It's better to have extra paint when you are finished than to run out of paint. You always want to apply two coast of paint, so it will take more than a gallon to paint a typical room in a house.
- Paint trim before you paint walls. Give paint applied to trim several days to dry. Use blue tape, which is less sticky, to protect trim when you paint the walls.
- Cut in borders of wall areas before you roll paint on walls. This is where you paint the corners, along taped baseboards, doorways and windows, and along the ceiling.
- When you roll paint onto walls, coat roller with lots of paint. Apply to the upper part of the wal and roll downwards, Then roll down ward several times, spreading paint to sides. You can then roll back and forth. Don't over roll or apply to much pressure through the roller. Apply more paint to roller instead of squeezing it out of roller.
- If you've taped doorway and window trim, baseboards, and so on, tape can be removed whenever if you've applied flat paint. If you've applied semi-gloss, eggshell or high gloss, you should remove the tape right after the second coat or wait at least 24 hours. You don't need to use a putty knife to score the tape when you've used flat aint, but you will have to score the edge of the tape when you use the glossier paints.
